I'm so proud of my senior business students. It's been a long road, but they are getting there. This year we learned about small business management, entrepreneurship and more. The best part? They have grown as student leaders in the Business Academy!
At the beginning of the year we worked with the NAF curriculum which was integrated with our class book and NFTE. They created business plans for the cafe. The winning plan was used to get the cafe started. Now, they are refining the plan and customizing it to their particular group. They must be prepared to showcase their final project in front of the board, teachers and admin. I'm both excited and nervous for them.
The cafe is up and running...slowly. But like Coca-Cola (who only sold 25 bottles of Coke their first year) we are steadily climbing ;) They get the hands on experience of working a business from the ground up, collaborating and working as a team to get things done. They learn the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with running a business. (Something I'm all too familiar with.)
I can truly say it has been a good experience and perhaps more so for me than for my students. I think I've learned as much from them as they have learned from me...
